Yesterday, I read the very interessant Suko's post about "Muslin Women Reformers".
As I just finished "A thousand Splendid Suns", I thank it was interessant to link these two books.
This one is a novel which takes place in Afghanistan, between the seventies and about the year 2000.
It's the story of two young girls who, for differents reasons, eighteen years apart, will marry the same man, far older than them. A brute of a husband.
Initially, they are totally different : the older one, Mariam is a "harami", an illegitimate child, few educate. The second one, Laïla, is a teacher's beloved daugther who attended school.
In reading this book, we discover the Aghanistan chaotic recent history and above all, the Afghan women's life.
The book allows to us too, to remember that the women's achievements are always in danger.
